GOOD MORNING AND HAPPY FRIDAY
Young County Junior Livestock Show Successes- Many GISD students had success during the recent Young County Junior Livestock Show (YCJLSS). Seventy of the 100 projects that qualified for the sale were those of GISD students!
One of the annual highlights for me is the Special Grand Drive in which our special needs students have the opportunity to experience the showing of an animal. Our FFA and 4H exhibitors do an exceptional job of assisting with this portion of the YCJLSS.
Below is a complete listing of the YCJLSS 2019 Results.

Graham Steer Soccer- Best of luck at Springtown this evening!
Amendment to the GISD Calendar- Last spring I agreed for Graham ISD to host the junior high and elementary (Crestview and Woodland) UIL Academic contests. There was some difficulty in reaching a consensus on a date for the elementary meet. It was determined the best date for our contests to be Tuesday, February 12. In order to have enough staff and facilities to adequately run the contests, we would need to add a student holiday on February 12 or swap it with another day. It has been decided that we will swap the Friday, February 15 Teacher Workday with Tuesday, February, February 12.
Instead of adding February 12 as an additional student holiday, we are amending the calendar as follows:
● Tuesday, February 12 will be the teacher workday and the date that we host the UIL Academic meets.
● Friday, February 15 will be a regular school day.
No change is being made to Monday, February 18. This date will remain a Staff Development day and student holiday.
I apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause for some families. Our administrative team will work to accommodate individual needs caused by this change in the schedule. Please contact the campus principal with questions, etc.
Country Wisdom
As a youngster, I had the pleasure of working many “blue collar” jobs including cutting/baling/hauling hay; planting/working a pecan orchard; working cattle; deckhand on a shrimp boat; heavy-haul truck driving, etc. Through these experiences, I identify with country wisdom, where you do not always take a poll to determine a decision. There is simplistic wisdom that is utilized in this type of work that does not exist in the corporate boardroom or in the legislative process.
Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.
Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled.
Meanness don't just happen overnight.
Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.
Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.
You cannot unsay a cruel word.
Every path has a few puddles.
When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
The best sermons are lived, not preached.
Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway.
Don't judge folks by their relatives.
Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.
Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't bothering you none.
If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.
Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.
The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.
Always drink upstream from the herd.
Good judgment comes from experience and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.
Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.
If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.
If you run with dogs, you will get fleas.
You can’t always control what happens to you but you can always control your reaction to it.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.
CORNY JOKE OF THE DAY:
Why did the boy keep his trumpet out in the snow? (Scroll down for the answer.)
Because he liked cool music.
