Voting- I received the following information from Kyle Milam
of the Young County Republican Party:
U.S. House of
Representatives District 19 Candidate Forum
Monday,
February 8 at Graham Memorial Auditorium
Dear Educators,
Over half of the voting population of District 19
resides in rural counties making Young County one of the most important areas
to decide who our next representative in Washington will be. All 9 candidates are eager and anxious to
appear before the Young County constituency.
There are no Democratic or other party candidates so the primary
election will decide this race. Choosing
the next representative will be very important to our county and Graham is in
turn very important to the campaigns of the candidates. But how will the candidates know how
important Young County is to them unless we are able to impress them with a
good turnout for the forum? We need a
representative that will be responsive to the needs of Young County and we
cannot just assume that they will take our county seriously; we have to make
them take us seriously by our actions.
How better to do that than by filling up the Memorial auditorium Monday
evening, February 8. We need your
help. The auditorium will seat in excess
of 500 so please get the word out and extend this invitation to your employees,
co-workers and friends. Let’s make
Graham a player in District 19 not just a spectator.
Your participation is greatly appreciated.

Take Ownership- Solve the Problem!
In case you haven’t noticed, organizations have problems… things
go wrong… mistakes happen! Whether you
consider these times to be “issues”, “situations”, “challenges” or “opportunities”
all that really matters are the reactions you choose to display. Miller in
Flipping the Switch states, “We gain a distinct advantage when we practice the
Principle of Ownership because only then do we find solutions.”
A few simple tips to taking ownership:
·
Avoid playing the “blame game!” Although blame
is a natural response of which none of us are immune, it solves no problems.
·
Avoid excuses!
Excuses take away your personal power and your self belief.
·
Avoid saying, “It’s not my job!” It leads others
to perceive we don’t care.
Most of us have defined roles within our organization as
outlined by job descriptions. Many job
descriptions contain language such as, “?”
The job description does not define one’s impact on the
morale of the organization or on the customers we serve. Take ownership of problems. Show others you care. Always ask, “How can I help this (person,
student, parent, co-worker) right now?”

A: Because he felt crummy
