All in the Name

As someone who has a unique name this story about our students touched me.  It was shared on Facebook by the mother of the young student.

“If you ever doubted the impact a high school football player could have on a nine-year-old, this is proof that they can. T had never met #10 who plays CB/WR for the Graham Steers, until last night.

Back Story: T has been going through a name change crisis. He was tired of being teased at school for his name (Tripp). A week ago he approached us, emotionally upset about wanting to change his first name, and we could tell that he was very serious about the topic. No matter our words, nothing was going to change his mind, and we said that we would research and look into seeing what it took to change his name. On Thursday he had learned there was a particular young man who plays Varsity Football for the Graham Steers. Friday night lights came (Go STEERS), and T remembered this specific football player from the day before and asked us what his number was. So we start researching and find that he is #10. T proceeds to leave sitting next to us and moving down closer to the front-row seat at the stadium to watch and cheer on #10. During the game, T said he wanted to go down and meet him after the game, so we made that happen. Whatever it would take to encourage T after his emotional week. So after the game was over and all the Steer fans were making their way down to the field, we ran into #10’s mom and I gave her a brief rundown of our "name change" dilemma. She took us straight to #10 and introduced Tripp to Tripp. #10 was surprised that someone else had the same name as him, you could tell by the look on his face. He gave T some encouraging words and advice when others decide to tease him about his name. After visiting some more we left and on our walk back to the car, T looked at me and said, "Mama, I don't want to change my name anymore because then Tripp (#10) would be the only one with that name and I don't want him to be alone. I feel like we are best friends now. He and I have the same initials too, T.M. and T.M." T was on cloud 11, and hearing him say those words and seeing the joy he had in that moment is something that I will never forget.

He's already been asking if they can hang out and when he gets older (old enough to have a cell phone) if they can keep in touch. Thankful that God went before and saw that our T would need this encouragement from another. Forever a fan of #10 💙🤘

Thank you, David Flynn for capturing this nine year olds unforgettable night!”

Embrace Both Sides!

Charles Dickens wrote  A Tale of Two Cities.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”

More than an epic opening, it’s a truthful take on life. We want the best of times without the worst. We want wisdom without foolishness, light without darkness, hope without despair. That isn’t reality, is it?

The best of times and the worst of times often occur at the same time! Life is a two-sided coin. Embrace both sides!

Have a nice day… take care of yourself and others!

Expectations… Become Reality!

A traveler nearing a great city asked a man seated by the wayside, “What are the people like in the city?”

“How were the people where you came from?”

“A terrible lot,” the traveler responded.  “Mean, untrustworthy, detestable in all respects.”

“Ah,” said the sage, “you will find them the same in the city ahead.”

Scarcely was the first traveler gone when another one stopped and also asked about the people in the city before him.  Again the old man asked about the people in the place that the traveler had left.

“They were fine people; honest, industrious, and generous to a fault.  I was sorry to leave them,” declared the second traveler.

The wise old man responded: “So you will find them in the city ahead.”

Shining… Share your light

When a flashlight grows dim or quits working, you don’t throw it away…you change the batteries!

When a person messes up and finds themselves in a dark place, do you cast them aside?  Of course not, you help them change their batteries!

Some need AA…attention and affection.

Some need AAA…attention, affection, and acceptance.

Some need C…compassion.

Some need D…direction.

And if they still don’t shine…simply sit with them quietly and share your light!!!

Have a nice day… take care of yourself and others!
